There is a radio link from our station into Toolik camp in one of the science lab buildings. Coordinate with camp manager if access to the master radio is necessary. Our radio antenna is elevated about 20 feet up on a pole; it would only improve it to go higher.

Site Access

Road to Toolik Lake Research Station
Site is located on old camp pad, which is used for storage of gravel. It's possible to drive up to the hut, beware of the 3 boreholes to the south of the hut.
Winter access involves a 1/2 mile trek with snowshoes and sleds, but it's not difficult.

Toolik Assistant Station Manager: Chad Diesinger. Really cool guy on site. The website says that Faustine Bernadec is now the official station manager (01/2019), she's also really cool.
This information should NOT go beyond this website, but try to avoid all contact with the Station Director, Mike Abels. He is a nightmare to deal with. Rumor has it that he's nearing retirement. We can hope.
The reservation system for staying at Toolik almost always routes through Abels, so lodging is difficult. Coordinating any helicopter logistics or fuel is next to impossible. Just stay at Happy Valley with 70North, Toolik isn't worth the trouble.
