  •  2019_09_13 Service (R. Bierma, J. Soderquist, N. Murphy-AEC)
    STATION CODE:
    AK.POKR

    STATION Locale Description:
    Poker Flat, AK, USA

    STATION SERVICE LOG DATE:
    20190913

    STATION/SENSOR DOWN TIME (UTC):
    2300-2330 UTC

    SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Replace AC/DC convertor in Climate building
    baler media
    UPON ARRIVAL:
Site was in deccent condition and was operating normally, aside from known power system issue. Possible animal damage to the makeshift wellcap box, it was askew from frost jacking, but the cover had a crack and some scrape marks on it.

    ACTIONS TAKEN:

The AC/DC convertor in the climate trailer was swapped out. A standard Convert AC/DC convertor with resistor for 15V output was installed. DC voltage was measured 14.9V at the vault.

    Baler media was swapped
Basic station check and documentation of equipment and cabling.
Temporary patch job on wellcap to keep water out, more permanent fix will be needed.

    EQUIPMENT REMOVED:
    n/a

    EQUIPMENT INSTALLED:
    n/a

    COMMENTS:

Both of the borehole casings were frost jacked up to 4" out of the ground:

One has a Home Depot 12"x12" gray box modified to fit over an oversized (~8"? PVC casing), there is a rubber gasket that maybe originally fit, but we were unable to squeeze it over again. The frost jacking popped the LB/liquitite connector off of the box, and the box was pulled off the PVC casing. There is a chance that there was some animal damage to this one, a crack and several scrape marks were observed on the lid, but it seems more likely something like a moose stepping on it rather than a bear mauling it.

The second is a piece of standard PVC casing sticking out of the ground 2' with a cap on top, no cable passthroughs were observed.

Kevin Abnet accompanied us up to the station and opened the climate reasearch trailer for us. He was very interested to learn that ATA has infrasound sensors at every station, something Poker Flat might try to use to track supersonic shed boosters through the atmosphere.

    VISITOR:
    Ryan Bierma
    John Soderquist
    Nate Murphy (AEC)
    Kevin Abnet (Poker Flat)

    ON NEXT VISIT:

Permanent fix needed on the wellcap box

Swap in (2) new AGM batteries. The ones there have "2012" written on them, and they don't seem to hold much sharge anymore.

    CHANGES AFFECT INSTRUMENT RESPONSE:

    None
