USArray Station Removal Report Form V1.5

    STATION CODE: TA.N14K

STATION LOCALE DESCRIPTION: Kuskokwak Creek, AK

STATION REMOVAL LOG DATE (UTC): 5/14/2021

    STATION/SENSOR DOWN TIME (UTC): 18:35

REMOVAL DESCRIPTION: Sensor removed. Casing cut off below grade. Hut removed.

ACTIONS TAKEN: Sensor issued "remove" command, log file captured (attached). Sensor orientation was not measured. The sensor and stuff sacks were frozen in place down hole and it required a scissor jack and hot water to break it all free. The lowest frozen stuff sack prevented access to the top of the sensor for orientation measurement. After the instrument and bags were removed, the PVC casing was trimmed to near grade with the Saw-z-all, then cut 6” below grade with the die grinder. A compression cap was tightened onto the top of the casing and buried with local material.

The hut, conduit and all remaining materials were slung back to Bethel

CASING CONDITIONS: The PVC casing was jacked out of the tundra 26”, measured from ground level to top of casing.

SEISMOMETER REMOVAL: There was heavy resistance from a frozen sensor and frozen lower stuff sack. We had the cooperation of 4 people using the scissor jack to pull tension on the sensor rope while boiling hot water was poured down hole.

    LAT/LONG OF SENSOR HOLE: N 59.92369, W -161.68518

Distance and azimuth to Hut from Sensor hole: 200", 173.76 degrees

    Wind turbine: [not present]
