USArray Station Removal Report Form V1.5

    STATION CODE: TA.I29M

STATION LOCALE DESCRIPTION: Ogilvie Camp, YT, CAN

    STATION REMOVAL LOG DATE: 20210717

    STATION/SENSOR DOWN TIME (UTC): 2108

REMOVAL DESCRIPTION: Sensor removed. TA gear removed. Grizzly cooler, borehole, and power infrastructure remains for GSC adoption.

ACTIONS TAKEN: Powered the station down after collecting a final screenshot.  Sensor issued "remove" command, log file captured. Orientation was taken and the sensor was removed.

The VIE, Q330 and associated cabling were removed. The Grizzly cooler is staying in place – in it are 2 AGM batteries, power cables, GPS antenna and cable, DC power cable connecting to the power box inside the bunkhouse, and ethernet cable that follows the same path as the power cable inside the bunkhouse.

The small box containing the AC/DC convertor was left in place under the computer desk in the bunkhouse. It was unlugged. The Mikrotik router was removed, the ethernet cable into the Highways network switch was disconnected. Everything was left tidy under the table.

A Morningstar charge controller wired with yellow and red Souriau bulkheads was plugged into the yellow (DC power input) and red (battery) power cables in the box.

CASING CONDITIONS: The well cap box was crushed by a large vehicle at some point, likely during snow plowing. We were unsure whether it moved the borehole, STS5Field showed the tilt within tolerance, but the sensor was out of level on all three channels.

SEISMOMETER REMOVAL: 2/3 difficulty. The sensor required a handy man jack to come out, this after the scissor jack was attempted. Possibly some small amount of water or ice down hole.

    LAT/LONG OF SENSOR HOLE: N 65.36092, W -138.30629, WAAS enabled

Distance and azimuth to Hut from Sensor hole: 132", 109 degrees

    Wind turbine: [not present]

Bottom of wellcap to grade level: 5”

    SENSOR ORIENTATION MEASUREMENTS:

    Measured with Octans Unit: b/c 5007004, s/n 34531002

Measured with rods on pin: Yes

Casing/wellcap marked with reference orientation: No

    SENSOR ORIENTATION: 0.80 degrees

Sensor orientation from install: 0.01 degrees

COMMENTS: The shattered wellcap box was removed and the borehole was temporarily capped. A new wellcap box will be installed on the borehole when we return to stage heli ops at the Ogilvie Highways camp.

    COMMENTS:
    - The router uses the "Mikrotik roaming configuration" provided by Geoff Davis;
    - TA uses the Mikrotik RouterBOARD hEX PoE lite router to "phone home" to San Diego from various networks of opportunity.
    - This configuration was provided by Geoff Davis and was tested prior to deployment by Schmidt and Davis.
    - The term “DOT” is often used to signify the Yukon Highways Yards - there is no Department of Transportation - it is known as Highways and Public Works.

    STATION CODE:

    STATION Locale Description:
    Ogilvie Camp, YT

    STATION SERVICE LOG DATE:
    20191030

    STATION/SENSOR DOWN TIME (UTC):
Site comms still offline, equipment is powered and operational

    SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Yukon DOT tech connected the IRIS equipment to the temporary Xplornet VSAT comms system at the camp.

    UPON ARRIVAL:
Site was not visited by IRIS personnel

    ACTIONS TAKEN:
Q330/B44 configuration updated so that the B44 uses a static IP of 192.168.1.250. It was then plugged into a Yukon DOT router, ports 5330-5390 are being forwarded to this IP. The Q330 is not accessible and POCs are not arriving at ANF. Double NATing in the Xplornet network is the likely issue.

    EQUIPMENT REMOVED:
    None

    EQUIPMENT INSTALLED:
    None

    COMMENTS:
Yukon DOT tech Cyriac George (Cyriac.George@gov.yk.ca), was onsite and made the Q330 config changes with Willard
Yukon DOT network engineer Byron Klippert coordinated the site visit and is the POC for the networking side of the DOT camps (Byron.Klippert@gov.yk.ca)

    VISITOR:
    Doug Bloomquist (remote)

    ON NEXT VISIT:
Install a Mikrotik router with a VPN tunnel back to ANF in order to get around the double NATing issue of the Xplornet network.
