    Purcell Mountains, AK, USA

    STATION SERVICE LOG DATE:

    STATION/SENSOR DOWN TIME (UTC):

Sensor was down when we arrived. Sensor resurrected approximately 2145 UTC

    crew onsite from 2010-2300 UTC

    SERVICE DESCRIPTION:

    Replace sensor and cable
    Multiple firmware upgrades
    Swap baler media

    UPON ARRIVAL:
Half of the wellcap lid had been torn off. The sensor cable had been evicerated from the wellcap box and severed completely by a bear (or Enukins). The stuff sacks were yanked out and only 1 was accounted for down the hill. The borehole had about 12" of standing water above the sensor.

    ACTIONS TAKEN:

STS5A sensor was removed from the borehole; this required two people using an orienting rod to lift and break suction, although it didn't take much force. Because the sensor cable was severed, there was no way to lock the STS5A prior to removal from the borehole; the first action with the old sensor was to connect the new sensor cable and issue a Remove command. We decided that since the sensor had been moved without being locked and had also been submerged by water in the borehole, we needed to replace both the sensor and cable.

The water was bailed out of the hole, paper towels were used to attempt to sponge some of the water, and 0.5L of dry sand poured for the base. It leveled off nicely and actually felt pretty stable and compacted. However it should be noted that the base is still water-logged sand, we didn't have sufficient sand to dig everything out and replace it. The new STS5A sensor was lowered down hole and bedded in place with 2.2L of dry sand.

XI202 firmware was updated to 4286

GCC firmware was updated to 1.20

The infrasound hose was not connected to the VIE when we arrived, so it was attached.

    Baler media was swapped.

    COMMENTS:

Top of sensor was 76". Stuff sacks were pushed to 62", 27", and grade. A replacement wellcap lid was installed.

Sensor orientation measured at 0.00 with OCTANS (using NMEA display)

Data flow confirmed with Installer Command prior to departure

All the infrastructure on the Hut Antenna Mount and inside the hut was in good condition

Door was taped prior to departure.
