H18K (REMOVED)

Station Notes

  • Station Close-Out Report
  • The X3 header pins in the QEP was not fully soldered to the QEP circuit board (see installation photos). This resulted in the header pins not making a good contact and the WXT520 was not recognized by the Q330. The pins were bent to one side which allowed them to make a contact with the circuit board and the Q330 was then able to recognize the WXT520. This is a tenuous connection that could easily be undone. It should be carefully monitored and the safest bet would be to either correctly solder the pins to the board or swap the QEP (or VIE).

  • Note that the jumpers are correctly installed on the X3 pins, the issue is with the connection of the pins to the PCB.

    STATION/SENSOR DOWN TIME (UTC): 21:31

REMOVAL DESCRIPTION: Sensor removed, borehole casing cutoff and capped, hut removed.

ACTIONS TAKEN: Powered the station down after collecting a final screenshot.  Sensor issued "remove" command, log file captured (attached). Orientation was taken and sensor removed. The metal casing was cut off 7” below grade using a die grinder and capped with a 6" expansion end plug. The remaining hole was filled with local dirt and rock.

The hut was packed with the conduit, well cap, casing cut off, hut antenna mount and any other site debris.

CASING CONDITIONS: The casing was in good condition with no damage to the wellcap. No evidence of frost jacking.

    SEISMOMETER REMOVAL: 1/3 difficulty.

The jack was used to break sand tension, but it was only a light force. No water or ice down hole.

    LAT/LONG OF SENSOR HOLE: N 65.15269, W -158.36333, WAAS enabled

Distance and azimuth to Hut from Sensor hole: 287", 32.97 degrees

    Wind turbine: [not present]

Bottom of wellcap to grade level: 6”

    SENSOR ORIENTATION MEASUREMENTS:

    Measured with Octans Unit: b/c 5008931, s/n 34531211

Measured with rods on pin: Yes

Casing/wellcap marked with reference orientation: No

    SENSOR ORIENTATION: 2.3 degrees

Sensor orientation from install: 0.01 degrees

COMMENTS: Soil temperature sensor was removed. Data loggers labeled and collected for later download.

Vaisala still had active connection to EP
