F18K (AEC-AON)

Station Notes

  • ADOPTED BY THE AEC
  • The cell signal strength is poor (-92 dBm) and the modem was having a hard time keeping up with the Q330’s DP1 buffer. The site’s communications performance should be carefully watched over the next few days in case the cell modem’s data rate is insufficient.

    STATION SERVICE LOG DATE:

    STATION/SENSOR DOWN TIME (UTC):

    1845-1945 UTC

    SERVICE DESCRIPTION:

    Sensor cable repair

    Vaisala station swap

Other firmware updates and station checks

    UPON ARRIVAL:

The station was in good shape overall. The only noted problemw as that the conduit was diconnected at the wellcap and chewed by a bear.

    ACTIONS TAKEN:

A new STS-5A sensor cable was installed in place of the bear chewed cable. The conduit was reattached to the wellcap box. The sensor appeared to be functioning, based on good mass leveling and stomp tests.

A Vaisala WXT536 was installed in place of the failed WXT520. The cable was fine.

The Genasun charge controller was upgraded to firmware 1.20

QEP firmware was updated to 1.10

XI202 firmware was updated to 4286

    Baler media was swapped.

    No soil data was downloaded.

    EQUIPMENT REMOVED:

    Vaisala WXT520: sn H1210003, bc 5013029

    EQUIPMENT INSTALLED:

    Vaisala WXT536: sn R2210116, bc 5019065

    COMMENTS:

The sensor was bedded with 1.75L of sand - less than normal since it's an STS5A in PVC (a tighter fit).

OCTANS was used to orient sensor: 0.0 degrees

Door was taped prior to departure

    ON NEXT VISIT:
There was supposed to be a cell modem upgrade on this trip, but unfortunately due to a mixup we did not bring the RV50 along. The RavenX is still working fine, but the signal was not good (-106 dB).
